Caleb and Sabrina's wedding is in January 2026, however, they were excited to get their engagement session on the books. I often don't know who is more nervous, me or the couple, before a shoot. For most of my couples, this is the first time they have had their photos professionally done, let alone have a very large camera lens stuck in their faces for a few hours. It is a part of my job to make them feel comfortable with both of them not knowing me and in this new environment.
Caleb lives in Fort Collins and Sabrina goes to school not to far from there; however, their story started back before they even knew where they would be attending college.

Both of them found their first love in hockey, however, they met each other around the same time. If you met them, you would know they are best friends, and their love for each other is palpable. Sabrina is the girl who makes my job as a photographer easy, 1. because she loves him and 2. because she loves to laugh. Personally, the best combination for us photographers. Caleb is not one for the camera, as most men aren't, however, it was so adroable as the shoot went on how he got into more and more and started coming up with his own vision and prompts along the way! They were so wonderful to work with because they were down for anything. Every idea I had, every vision I mentioned, they were there for the plot.

The day of their engagement session, I was getting really nervous! The forecast had been clear skies and beautiful, and when I scouted this location a few days prior, I was in awe of the vast views and photo opportunities. However, the day of their shoot, I was driving up the hill to the biggest, darkest, heaviest rain cloud perched right above the reservoir. We have had this shoot on the books for weeks and with their busy schedules, we were in a make-do situation. Sometimes, you just have to roll with the weather given.
On a side note, if you are reading this because you are a photographer looking to do a photoshoot here and or a couple looking for a spot for photos, I can sincerely tell you this is a great location with lots of spot options depending on how much you're willing to walk and explore.
When I do engagement sessions with my couples, I dedicate a chunk of my day to it! I believe you can't put creativity in a box by adding time restraints, thus my typical engagement sessions often lasts around 2 to three hours, depending on location.
An engagement shoot will help me get to know you both on a more comfortable and personal basis, afterall, in most cases I am photographing your most personal and personalized day!
I strive to use our time to both get to know each other and utilize the space we have with several different angles and locations.
To get the shot, as seen in the first photo, you don't even have to hike; Horsetooth Reservoir has lots of accessible places to get great views without even hitting the trails. We did this mid-April, and I was in search of some form of floral inspiration and a chance to play with angles and rocks, and this spot did not disappoint!
We spent a good three hours, laughing, me adoring the socks off them and honestly having fun. An engagement shoot should be fun, it's like a date where you get to celebrate your love with each other, and it's my job to say the things to make you feel special, silly, and make this experience your own!
If you are interested in having your shoot here, to note that there is a $10 day parks pass (You can pay by phone or meter), and if you are a photographer, you will need to get a one-time use or an annual photography permit for Larmier County.
We wrapped up their shoot, with some playful shots in their college hockey teams that they both play in! Overall, the weather cooperated, and it was like it was meant to be because as soon as we decided to leave, the rain came in for the next 24 hours.
